FAQs

Do I have to undress?

No. All treatments are conducted through clothing. You may be required to take off belts, shoes and bulky jackets or jumpers.

Do I have to wear special clothes?

It is more beneficial for the client to be comfortable. I suggest loose comfortable clothes suitable to the weather. Soft trousers and knitted tops or cotton T. shirts are very suitable.

How long does a treatment take?

The initial treatment usually takes about an hour. This is primarily so that client’s details and history can be recorded, and an assessment made and treatment performed.  Follow up treatments are dependent upon the issues being addressed and the client’s needs.  Often follow-up treatments will take half hour to an hour for an adult and between 10 minutes to half hour for children.

How many treatments will I need?

As few as one or two treatments however it depends on the problem. Most clients find relief in the initial treatment some require two or three treatments and very few need more. In instances where clients have chronic problems it may be necessary for them to have more treatments. Generally most clients are very happy to continue with these treatments while their health and wellbeing are improving. Once wellbeing is established clients call when they believe it is necessary.

Do these treatments hurt?

No. Generally speaking they are extremely gentle. On occasion a little more pressure may be necessary to achieve the desired result, but this is rare.

You do Emmett, Bowen, Reiki, NLP and Bush essences, how will I know which treatment is appropriate for me?

During the initial consultation I determine the appropriate treatment for my client.  It may be beneficial for my client that I combine two or three therapies to achieve the best result. This will be discussed with, and agreed upon, in consultation with my client.

Can I claim your fee from my private health fund?

Yes indeed.  Most health funds offer rebates for treatments. Amongst these are: NIB, MBF, CBHS, AHM, Govt Employees, Teachers, and NRMA.

Are your treatments suitable for children?

Yes, children respond very well and very rapidly. Since most children find it difficult to stay still for any length of time, I make their treatments short and sweet. Usually following them around the clinic room treating them where they’re most comfortable. This could take place on mum or dad’s knee, the floor or the treatment table.

What kinds of problems do kids have?

All kinds of problems from behavioural issues to accidents. Often kids will be, “just a little out of sorts”. This could mean they’re off their food, grizzly, acting out, unable to concentrate at school, falling or tripping easily or simply complaining of pain or discomfort ranging from headaches to sore legs or back.  These treatments can also assist in easing the discomfort from glue ear (often alleviating the problem altogether), in some instances assist in cases of autism, asperges, tourettes, and assist with intestinal problems such as constipation.

Speech impediments may be improved, for instance, if the jaw is misaligned from either birth or an accident, speech can be affected. The nerve that controls the tongue travels through the TMJ (jaw joint), and if pinched it can cause a lisp.  Difficult to believe, however, I have found this to be the case.

What about newborns?

Symptoms arising such as colic, reflux, neck restriction, sleeping, feeding, constipation, turned feet or unsettled or cranky may be addressed/alleviated very effectively with these treatments. The baby’s jaw is often out of alignment after birth and it is advisable to address this as soon as possible.

So these treatments can assist babies, what about expecting mums?

Where to begin… How about morning sickness? Most often morning sickness can be alleviated in two or three treatments. Pelvic discomfort, often one treatment; carpel tunnel syndrome, one treatment; lower back pain, one treatment; that very heavy dragging feeling under ‘the bump’ exclusive only to pregnant women, one treatment.  In some cases more than one treatment may be beneficial and in rare cases regular treatments may be advised to assist with chronic discomfort.

Furthermore, that feeling of being unable to breathe in the latter stages of pregnancy can be very easily addressed in most instances.

What about after pregnancy/post natal care?

It is strongly advised that women have a treatment soon after the birth of their baby and bring the little one along for a treatment as well. Both mum and baby go through quite a bit during the labour and these treatments can bring greater comfort to both.

What about sports injuries?

Both Tom Bowen and Ross Emmett developed these techniques, in part, on the playing field. These treatments address: tight hamstrings, quads, biceps, traps, lats, QLs, calves; poor grip, balance, neck rotation, respiratory function, shoulder rotation; lower back pain, frozen shoulder, inability to straighten arms, and much more. So effective is the Emmett Technique for addressing sporting injuries that Ross Emmett has developed a short course specifically aimed at coaches and trainers. Emmtech was developed to assist them in ensuring their team members and clients perform to the best of their ability. For more information on EMMTECH see the training section.

Can I still enjoy my weekly massage after a treatment?

Sure, go spoil yourself.

How successful are these treatments?

Very. We currently have approximately 1900 families listed on our database. In some instances there are 6 members to the one family and they are all clients.  People don’t usually return to a therapist if they’re not getting good results.
